Overview
Lymphoedema is a long-term condition causing swelling in body tissues, most commonly in the arms or legs. It happens when the lymphatic system, which helps fight infection and remove fluid, doesn't work correctly. There are two main types. Primary lymphoedema is due to faulty genes affecting lymphatic system development, appearing at any age. Secondary lymphoedema results from damage to the lymphatic system, often caused by cancer treatment, infection, injury, or lack of movement. While there's no cure, lymphoedema symptoms can be managed. Treatment focuses on reducing fluid build-up and improving lymphatic flow through various techniques. Early identification and treatment are important to prevent it from worsening.
